FORLIS Guitarist Talks About Working With KILLJOY
September 30, 2004Guitarist/vocalist Svest of the Danish ambient band FORLIS recently spoke to Vampire-Magazine.com about the group's collaboration with Killjoy (NECROPHAGIA, THE RAVENOUS) on their upcoming full-length debut, tentatively due in 2005 via Baphomet Records. Several exceprts from the interview follow:
Vampire-Magazine.com: How did you get in touch with (Killjoy) and on what point did the two of you decide to work together on FORLIS?
Svest: "Well, I mailed him a copy of 'Hellseeker' back in June, and he sent me an e-mail shortly after receiving it telling me how much he loved FORLIS and that he would love to do some vocals for us some time. As you can imagine, I was pretty stunned and I immediately called Vuml and told him what had happened and so on, and we didn't hesitate to welcome Killjoy in the ranks of FORLIS. Everyone who has heard ENOCH and especially NECROPHAGIA's 'Goblins Be Thine' cannot suppress the fact that he is a brilliant vocalist who is capable of much more than screaming his lungs out in metal bands. He has a firm grasp of doing creepy, whispered and almost mumbling spoken-word parts and this will add a whole new depth to FORLIS in the future!"
Vampire-Magazine.com: A new album will be out on Baphomet Records in 2005. Are you in the position to reveal some details?
Svest: "The full-length will feature about 7-8 new songs. We originally intended to do 5-6 new songs, but Vuml and I have been really creative for the past month, so we have recorded a hell of a lot of ideas and these will definitely end up on the full-length. We have recorded all the guitar, bass and piano parts for 5 songs so far, and we are still working on 3 other songs, so there will definitely be around 7-8 new songs on the new album. Killjoy is currently working on some lyrics for the new songs, and I can reveal a few titles here: 'Sanitarium Symphony', 'Pull the String' and 'Nightmare Scenery'!"
Vampire-Magazine.com: That album will also contain the "Hellseeker" promo/demo. What made you choose for this? Some bands choose not to re-release their demo/early stuff to keep it exclusively for their fans from the earliest days…
Svest: "It was pretty much Killjoy's idea to release the 'Hellseeker' promo CD along with a number of new songs, and I think that is a brilliant idea since 'Hellseeker' hasn't been promoted that much. Also, we haven't spread that many copies of it, so we thought that we would include the entire promo as a part of our debut-album. I should also add that we have re-mastered the entire 'Hellseeker' promo and that we have been talking of adding some additional vocals to the songs, so it will differ from the promo!"
